MOON/MOONSHADOW (PRANCER)

Thanks for volunteering at the shelter!!

Her name was changed to Moon (Moonshadow, officially) when we adopted her. She actually will respond to her new name.

She LOVES my oldest son, my husband and my five-year-old daughter (who has actually managed to dress her up like a lion without any hesitation from Moon). She’s ok with my other two sons. She TOLERATES me. Ha ha.

She’s well loved. Well fed. Well cared for.

I, sadly enough, just found out I am allergic to her/cats … (couldn’t figure out why I was so itchy all the time, sneezing, coughing, shortness of breath since her adoption … I ended up calling my doctor who verified with a blood test I AM allergic to cats, maybe that is why she tries to stay away from me? Who knows … She had just started coming to our upper level (we have a two level fully finished home) but since I am truly allergic, she will have to live primarily in our lower level. (The lower level is 1300 finished square feet with a large family room, two bedrooms and a bathroom, so there is no space shortage.) We do let her come up for her breakfast in the mornings (her can of cat food) and to snuggle with someone when we’re all watching TV upstairs, but she can’t go in my room and we discourage her from going on the couch for the sake of my allergy issue. Insert many sad faces here. I still hold her as much as I can and there is NO shortage of love for her from the other five family members who live here with her. She spends most of her time with my oldest son. Jacob, 14, created a PowerPoint presentation to try to convince my husband he was ready to have a cat. He agreed to doing the cat chores (litter box) and feeding her/filling her water bowl. He’s done a good job with that all, so far!

We bought her a kitty harness/leash off of Amazon … We’ve been practicing having her walk with it here in the house. It will take time, but we hope we can travel with her back and forth to our property in Wisconsin so she is not alone on the weekends when we go “up north.” She travels well in the car in her carrier. The question is, will she tolerate the change in environment constantly … If she doesn’t travel well, she’ll hang home on the weekends while we’re up north. Thankfully, cats are happy hanging out alone. We were contemplating getting her a friend, but that idea is on hold while I deal with my allergy. It’s TOUGH having constant allergy symptoms. Two cats would equal more symptoms for me, sadly.

Moonshadow has quickly become a part of our family. She is well loved. Here are some pictures of her with us!
