Bigun, or Big for short (formerly Polar), a 3-year-old Great Pyrenees, has settled into his new life and is doing spectacularly well since his adoption from the Humane Society of Burnett County in May! Having been an outdoor-only dog prior to his adoption, he overcame his fear of the indoors and quickly learned that air conditioning and napping on the couch are both very nice things. He spent his summer travelling between his city home in Minneapolis and his cabin in Wisconsin. In the city, he takes his job of ferociously protecting his yard from squirrels very seriously. He loves to get brushed, get treats, go for very leisurely walks, visit the neighbors, shake his long-legged toys violently, and chase his tail. He loves to sleep late in the mornings and requires a lot of encouragement to get out of bed. At the cabin he loves to wade in the lake, go for pontoon rides, play with his dog friends, and explore the woods – occasionally rolling in very stinky things (much to the dismay of his new mom, Cathy). Cathy feels incredibly blessed to have been able to provide a loving fur-ever home to Big after losing her first Great Pyrenees in March of this year to osteosarcoma. She is looking forward to spending a lot of time playing in the snow this winter with Big – as it is the most-favorite time of year for the thick-coated Great Pyrenees breed! Thank you, HSBC, for caring for this big floofy guy until he found his new home!
*Bigun means “gentle heart” in Basque, the language of the Pyrenees Mountain farmers between France and Spain that developed the Pyrenean Mountain Dog (Great Pyrenees) to guard sheep herds from predators.
