MEEKO (SIMBA)
We adopted Simba in May. My daughter named him Meeko. He’s doing great....

My husband and I were lucky enough to adopt Claire (renamed Emmy). We already had a German Shepard named Dre, but after the loss of my very first dog Bella we could tell that he needed a play mate. It took me a long time to grieve and I suppose that I still am. Dre and Emmy are the best of friends. During the last few weeks of my dear Bella’s life Dre took very good care of his sister and he is doing to the same with Miss Emmy. It’s been 2 years since I’ve had a puppy so the adjusting back to puppy life was a little rough to start. Big brother Dre has been so much help. He is a tattle-tale and I love it. He will come and find me whenever Emmy is up to no good. He also is learning that he has to set boundaries with her because mom isn’t always going to be there to tell her to stop playing rough. Emmy wasted no time making herself at home. As soon as we arrived home Dre and Emmy played in the yard until it got dark. They had a blast and Dre was finally coming to terms with having a little sister. I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better match for our family. Emmy is so affectionate and cuddly. She never misses an opportunity to jump in my lap as soon as I sit down on the couch. Dre and Emmy play all day, every day. I was worried about Dre being so big and not knowing his size, (since he still insists he sit on my lap) but he knew his limits right away and little Emmy is a lot tougher than she looks.
Little Miss Emmy has a personality all her own. She smiles when she is caught being naughty. The first time she did this I thought that she was showing me her teeth and getting aggressive with me. I was wrong. This little turd ONLY smiles when she is caught being naughty. And let me tell you, it is hard not to laugh when she does it. She also insists she has a blanket to lay on if she cannot lay in my lap or Dre decides he needs his space. Emmy is the chunk of all chunks. When it comes to food this girl can eat. She does dances around her bowl (I call it her crunchy dance). And when she gets fired up its so fun to watch her run from room to room, especially since we have hard wood floors she tends to slide from room to room. She is a bundle of joy!
I spent the better part of the fall trying to find a puppy but everywhere I looked they seemed to be adopted immediately. I was beginning to think I would have to buy a puppy, something I’m not a fan of. But every time I looked for puppies her little face kept appearing and I thought maybe this is a sign given I was feeling guilty about replacing my Bella. But when Emmy came running into the room to meet us, she ran right to me and gave me kisses. I knew then she was the one. She has brought the life back into a family in mourning. We love her to pieces and we wouldn’t trade her for the world. Thank you so much for bringing her into our lives.
