We adopted Simba in May. My daughter named him Meeko. He’s doing great....

Thank you for volunteering and following up on adoptions. It’s undoubtedly beneficial to get that feedback.
It’s been about two months now since Moose became part of our family and he’s been keeping us active, as he’s full of energy and loves to play, whether it’s tug-of-war with his rope or chasing his tennis balls when not proudly stuffing them in his mouth – he can actually accommodate up to three. His comfort level and trust continue to grow as does his sense that this is indeed his “forever home.” so he’s also been showing more of his personality as he lets his guard down (e.g. he has a strong personality and can be a bit stubborn at times, hence staying off the couch and bed are areas of continued “negotiations”). He’s adapted to our family routines very quickly as he’s quite intelligent, something that is definitely evident in his willingness to learn new things (treat motivation doesn’t hurt either) – he successfully completed 4 levels of obedience training classes through our local Animal Humane Society and is currently working through level 5. He loves people, especially anyone willing to play with him or feed him treats as he showcases all of his tricks and brings his toys to share. He still displays reactivity to certain dogs, but we’re working on that as we knew that behavior modification will take time. He loves the outdoors … and has been having a blast in the snow whether goofing around or taking long walks … he’s yet to accept the fact that he will not be able to climb a tree to catch his nemesis “the squirrel” (probably never will) and that the family outdoor Rex Rabbit hutch is “off-limits” (we can only hope with time) … definitely affords our family our very own personal four-legged physical trainer. Moose has become an integral member of the family, he’s found his place in our hearts and we look forward to making lots of memories with him.
We are grateful to the Humane Society of Burnett County (HSBC) for affording these animals a second chance and all the volunteers for their selfless service in giving of their time … the world is a better place for what you do. Thank you HSBC, and especially many thanks to Todd for working with Moose and introducing him to us!
