SHADOW AND DIESEL (RADAR)

August 8, 2024

Shadow and Diesel (formerly known as Radar) are doing wonderfully! I changed Radar’s name to Diesel because he has the LOUDEST purr and purrs all the time. It totally suits him! After a month together, they are adjusting extremely well to me (their new mama), their Uncle Matt, the house, and each other. They love to play and rough house together, take naps, and watch the birds, squirrels, and rabbits out the windows.

Shadow (white and brown tabby) was curious about the house right away, although he knows where the safe spaces are if he needs to get away for a bit. He loves treats, as well as wet food when I give that to the boys later in the day. He also LOVES to play with his toys. I had a basket of my previous cat’s toys on the bottom of the kitty mansion, and the first day I brought the boys home, Shadow found the toys and was not shy about digging in and finding some favorites right away. Shadow loves to lay on the bed or next to me on the couch.

Diesel (brown tabby) was a little shy at first. He found a safe space under my bed and would retreat to that spot the first few days, if he needed. Now, he’s become the dominant one, always cutting off Shadow and putting his butt in his face. Diesel likes to start the rough housing play with Shadow, but will sometimes take it a little too far and bite Shadow in the booty, which Shadow does not care for. Diesel wasn’t so sure about treats at first, but if I hold them between my thumb and index finger, he will lick them, then take and eat them. He also wasn’t sure about wet food either, but now gets excited when it’s time for wet food and will eat some of it, then let Shadow eat the rest. Diesel is super affectionate. He’s always purring and rubbing his face on my face.

Cute story from yesterday. Uncle Matt was vacuuming, and Diesel got scared and hid. We figured he was in his safe space under my bed, but he was nowhere to be found. I had been outside doing something in the garage, with the garage door open, so we worried he may have gotten out, but I really didn’t think he had. Anyway, I found Shadow snoozing on the kitty mansion and woke him up and asked him, “Where’s Diesel, Shadow? Shadow, find Diesel.” I said that over and over, and within maybe 5 or 10 minutes, I see Shadow sniffing around the floor near the back of the La-Z-Boy chair. Sure enough, Diesel was hiding in what I thought was an impossible space for him to fit under the chair. Shadow was a such a good boy and found Diesel for mama! Later on, I noticed Shadow go over to that area again, and after a while I went and looked in that same spot under the chair, and sure enough, Shadow had decided to try out that hiding spot for himself. Haha!

These boys have brought so much love, joy, and entertainment into my home. My heart is now full of love and happiness once again.
