PEARL (LUCY)
November 15, 2024
Wow! You have a great volunteer job! I (June) am a volunteer at HSBC too. I first met Lucy, now named Pearl, when I walked her as a volunteer. I brought my husband to the Shelter so that he could meet her too, and he also fell in love with her. Pearl has learned our daily routine and seems to be thriving here. She has two canine sisters, Suzy (an 8-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer, who is almost blind) and Rosie (a 7-year-old Hound/Husky mix who is also a rescue). While the older girls were a little bit bent-out-of-shape when Pearl first arrived, everyone has now relaxed and they are all getting along fine. We are convinced that Pearl is actually an English Pointer, or at least mostly so. We just sent in an Embark test to find out for sure. As a hunting dog, we are teaching her to run off-leash during walks and she is doing very well, always staying very close and returning to the house when we call her. Rosie also goes on our walks off-leash, so Pearl has a companion to run with her. While I don’t recommend this for everyone, we have a large property where they can get some exercise in an area that is far away from any roads and traffic. Pearl is a very affectionate girl, who loves to cuddle and gives us tons of kisses. When she wags her long tail, her whole body wiggles. When she interacts with people, she wiggles the whole time. Pearl basically has no behavioral issues or destructive behavior of any kind. She was house-broken when she came to us. She is a delightful girl and we are very happy to have her.
