Patrick & Larry are still Patrick & Larry. I love them! They are currently in my basement … a bright walkout basement with cat towers, cozy kitty beds, and toys. The boys can see my two other cats through a screen door, when they venture downstairs. The four cats are not together as I deal with Larry’s litter box issues. I took Larry to the vet after a week of letting him get used to my home. It turns out he had an ear infection and polyp in the ear canal. My vet was able to remove part of the polyp. She noted if it grows back larger she’ll try to get the whole thing out. Larry has been on two antibiotics during his early weeks here. He continues to poop outside the litter boxes. I have three different litters in four boxes, one called Cat Attract. Still, he has diahrrea outside the boxes. I have two pheremone plug-ins in the cat room, hoping this might help the issue. That hasn’t made a difference. I was out of town for four days and his poop got worse. It had gotten more formed while he was on meds. The petsitter who came in was gracious to deal with it. I will call the vet on Monday to ask if we might try antibiotics again. I’ve given probiotics and today purchased pumpkin to try to firm up his stool. I know this is not exactly a happy update but the good news is the boys are sweet as can be and deserve the best life. I won’t give up on Larry. We did not do labs on the polyp, but if it grows back we will check to see if it’s malignant.

My biggest message to adopters is that we do not always get perfection when we adopt a pet. I do understand that not everyone can afford ongoing medical care and manage litterbox issues. I’m happy that some of us can.  I have no regrets about adopting Larry. He and Patrick are bonded buddies and I couldn’t imagine them separated. I welcome any ideas for getting Larry to use a litterbox. I keep them clean, using Nature’s Miracle for cleanup. I want Larry and Patrick to join Bertie and Patches in the rest of the house.
