Services from the HSBC

Animal Adoptions

The HSBC provides cat and dog adoptions for individuals and families. The adoption process includes a pre-application, background and vet checks. It's important to find the right home for each animal, and we work hard to ensure that the animal is just as happy as it's new owners.

Pet Identification

It is important that your pet has proper identification so you may be reunited if your pet should get lost. HSBC offers quality ID tags (by order only) and the engraving is guaranteed for life.

Stray Animals

If you find a stray animal please contact the HSBC. We accept all stray dogs of Burnett County however we have limited space for cats. If you find a cat, please call during business hours to check on availability of space. If you find a stray dog outside of our operating hours, please contact the sheriff's department (715) 349-2121.

Redeeming Pets

All pets reclaimed from HSBC must have a CURRENT valid rabies vaccination certificate.

Our redemption fees are as follows:
Daily Boarding
Dog - $25/per day
Cat - $25/ per day

If HSBC was required to pick up your dog, an additional $20 fee will be charged.
HSBC does not pick up cats.

“Repeat offenders” - An additional $50 will be charged the second time an animal is brought to the shelter as a stray within a year and $100 for third time.

Animal Surrender

HSBC asks that any family considering the surrender of an animal exhaust all other opportunities before contacting the shelter. Many pets who have only known home life do not do well in the shelter environment. If an animal is stressed, withdrawn, or depressed, it can take much longer to find a new home. Consider checking with family and friends first. Breed rescues are another great option, as many of these animals are cared for in home environments.

The care and adoption of strays remain our first priority. Surrenders will only be taken by appointment pending available space and adoptability requirements. All surrenders are at the discretion of the HSBC board of directors, and a surrender fee may apply.

Surrender Fees:
Dogs $50
Cat $25
